Selection and use of teaching aids

Teachers need teaching aids in order to give the lesson in the class. Teaching aids are all the resources which are available in the classroom such as computers, borads, CD and DVD players, visual aids, realia and overhead projectors (OHPs). Those are selected according to the main, subordinary and atage aims established in the lesson plan in addition to some other purposes:

  • An overhead projector, for displaying activities on overhead transparencies.
  • A CD player for listening activities.
  • Language laboratory, for grammar drills.

  • Board, for writting down word maps or mind maps.
  • DVD player, for information-gap activities
  • Computer, for testing online.
  • Realia or flashcards, for teaching vocabulary as prompts or grammatical structures.
  • Puppets, for introducing new language, for intances, using them for telling stories for children.
  • Charts, porters and wallcharts, for showing objects in a lexical set (vocabulary).
In short, the use of different teaching aids is for catching the learners´ attention. Moreover, be ready with the aids before to start the class and plan carefully the sequence of activities you will do with them.
